When getting all of your sewing notions together to embark on the world of sewing, it’s great to start with a basic sewing kit. The items that I will be sharing are for the most basic kit, that will help you start sewing. You can always add to this list, bringing in tools that will help you save time. But to get you started we will go over the absolute basic items and then I will be sharing some of my favorite guilty pleasure tools.
Teaching people a craft is tough work, trying to come up with the right words to describe what to do in a situation, is sometimes the toughest thing to do. Since opening Sew Dayton, I have been teaching classes to the community to get them into sewing. Basic classes, how to install a zipper, a dog walking coat and more! It’s fun, don’t get me wrong.

We were able to get our shop put together with the help of friends and family in two weeks! 5 Gallons of paint on the wall, a Gallon of poly on the floor, lots of 12-14 hour days and its paid off! We are Open!

At Sew Dayton want a space where people that have no experience with a sewing machine can come in and feel comfortable to ask questions and get the answers. We are also hoping to get a few used sewing machines to have set up in the shop for anyone to use during classes that do not have access to machine.

So far this year, even though we are right in the beginning, it has been such an amazing time. I really feel like I am starting to fall into the swing of things and getting this going. I will have to find some part-time work to supplement my income till I can get this up and going like a well oiled machine. But I am totally enjoying the ride!
I couldn’t have asked for a better end to 2011, the only thing that really bummed me out about this year is being laid off. That was a huge blow but ended up being a blessing in disguise. It made me get off my butt and make it happen, instead of sitting and waiting for it to happen.
Dayton Flea Market was the last show for the year for me. It was kind of a disappointment, but a great learning experience.
