Secret Shops

I tend to do a lot of my supply shopping online. I found a few shops that I can’t resist, the quality and prices are unmatched.  When making handmade items, the quality of your work is one thing, but the quality of the notions and supplies is another. Nothing screams handmade like a cheap magnetic closure or swivel hook.

I am going to share some of my favorites! This list has not been shared with many, but I wanted to make  a reference post of amazing shops with quality products and superior prices. Let’s face it, if your going to sell your handmade goods, they better be worth the price your asking for them.

After searching the internet for a few months, trying different products, from different stores, all ranges of prices. I have narrowed down a list of vendor’s that have unsurpassed customer service, amazing price for quality and over all great products!

Zippers

I use a lot of zippers, I mean a LOT. Starting out like my fellow seamstresses, getting zippers from the fabric store. They are good, lots of choices and colors, but not in the bulk quantity I like to buy in.

While searching Etsy, (my secret to saving money and keeping small businesses in business), I found the cutest shop, ZipIt.  All sizes, colors, and bulk discounts! YKK zippers at wholesale prices, I have ordered many times from this shop and have never once been let down. Customer service is fantastic, fast shipping and UNBEATABLE prices. These zippers are phenomenal,  Every one of my items are made with ZipIt zippers.  I would HIGHLY suggest trying out this shop, you will be very happy with your new zippers! (Feedback rating as of this post is 100% out of 13900 sales!!)

 

Fabrics

Another item is fabric, of course I love going to my local fabric store, but it is a chain store. Its great but do not carry the designers that I love. So again while searching Etsy, I found Pink Castle Fabrics, which happened to be owned by one of my friends that moved to Michigan! Such a small world.  Brenda is super sweet, will make custom listings and get the fabrics out fast. Her selection is amazing and her feedback rating is high (100% out of 2266 sales (as of this post)! I have purchased many times from her shop and never have been let down.

 

 

Another amazing fabric shop is Poppy Seed Fabrics, Great choices, prices and customer service! As of this post 100% out of 3373 sales for feedback. They also have a blog. Love the Chevron Fabric bundles for sale now!

 

Notions

When I started making adjustable strap bags, I needed sliders and rings… then I needed magnetic closers, swivel hooks and d-rings. All in bulk, but everywhere online, they were super expensive and there was really only one brand I found.  In the package it was usually enough for one bag and at about ten dollars a set, I couldn’t justify passing those prices to my customers. There was no way I would/could ever make any kind of profit from my products. Which lets face it, when your making anything you want to get paid for the work that you put into your item.

On Etsy after searching hours for a vendor that had all the products I needed, I found Tantalizing Stitches, ordered some items and received them within three days and they were perfect! I was able to buy in bulk all the items I needed and they were high quality.  From them I have purchased, thin magnetic snaps (14mm & 18mm), 1.5 inch Swivel Clips with Matching D rings in Nickel Finish, O Rings, and Key Fobs. Everything was sturdy and great! Didn’t break the bank and was able to get custom orders by contacting the shop via Etsy!

 

 Labels

Finally, to have a bit more of a professional finish to my items, I wanted a custom label to sew onto my finished goods. I found two amazing label companies on Etsy. They both have different types and pricing, great customer service and HIGH Quality labels. I actually order different types from each vendor and us all of them.

First is Jennifer’s Jewels, the labels I purchased from this shop are printed on Poly Cotton. Perfect for the inside of my Kindle cases, iPad Cases and Zipper Clutches. They hold up and have a slight vinyl feel to them. Just don’t iron them whatever you do, they are not meant to be ironed and can melt. But they are super clear and sharp images, My fox logo came out perfect! It took about 4 days to get my labels which I impressed me a ton.

The other label shop is Custom Couture Label Co I bought matte polyester satin SEW ON labels, they are perfect for purses and clothing. Great detail, not as sharp as the ones from Jennifer’s Jewels but different material. They are so cute, the customer service was so incredible. I was getting constant updates on where my products were and how much longer I had to hold out. These labels took about 3.5 weeks to get. But was totally worth the wait.

So there is my secret list of some of my favorite supply vendors. I have more and this post was more focused on the sewing side of what I do now. If you are looking for great prices, amazing quality and the ability to shop wholesale or  bulk for your notions, please give the shops above a chance.

And just to clear up any thoughts, I did not receive ANYTHING from any of these vendors for making this post. I buy all my products just like the normal small business owner. I am expressing my opinion on these shops since I basically buy exclusively through them only. I have tried other stores and these are the places I prefer to spend my money.
